For the first time ever, Israel will meet England is a competitive football match as the two countries have been drawn to play in the same group for Euro 2008.

While, Israel and England have meet before in the 1980s for "friendly" games, the opportunity for Israel to play against an England squad is something the country is looking forward to, especially the opportunity to top their group and make it to the finals and play in Austria and Switzerland.

"The Euro draw presents us with new challenges against attractive teams and our fans will be able to see players of the highest calibre," said Israel coach Dror Kashtan. "England is the birthplace of football and they are one of the best sides in the world. Croatia and Russia are also regarded as very strong teams."

Kashtan takes on his coaching role in the summer, once he finishes his current contract with Israeli football team Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Other countries in Group E which Israel will be taking on are Croatia, Russia, Macedonia, Estonia and Andorra.

Dates for matches will be set later this month with games starting later this year.

While England fans will travel to Israel and watch their team take on Israel at the Ramat Gan Stadium, Israelis will also look forward to visiting the new Wembley Stadium.
