If you've ever seen the Olivia Gourmet range of sauces at your local kosher emporium and not been tempted to indulge in their delights, you're missing a treat.
Part of the massive Tnuva Food Corporation, this Israeli company has upped the ante when it comes to ready-made sauces to put on your meat and fish dishes.
Coming in four different varieties, the Olivia Gourmet sauce range consists of Garlic & Honey, Tropical Fruit, Sweet & Spicy Thai and Chilli Chutney. Each jar weighs 310 grams and contains enough to serve six people, with just 70 calories per serving.
Using the sauces is a real doddle, thanks to some well-written instructions. In the case of Sweet & Spicy Thai, it's a case of getting some chicken, putting some oil on the chicken, placing it in a pan and baking it in the oven for 30 minutes. Then remove the juices and baste the chicken with the sauce, and grill it for another five to 10 minutes.
The result is a nice, almost chargrilled effect – not dry, nor drenched in sauce – but perfect. In fact you could say it was restaurant quality and get away with it with your guests. The sauces are fully parev too.
While these ready-made products may be new to food connoisseurs outside of Israel, the company itself has a long history, founded in 1929, and has over the last decade, rapidly grown to become a business that offers everything from frozen pizza, vegetables and poultry to fish, dairy products and cold cuts.
Its other brands include Maadanot (for pizza and pastry), Tnuva Gallil (ready-to-eat poultry products) and Sunfrost (frozen vegetables).
Tnuva and its range of products shows that it's possible to offer some great stuff to the kosher consumer.
