Yarden Chicken Shawarma
Yarden Chicken Shawarma

Want to make your own shawarma at home? Well normally you would need one of those huge slabs of chicken, turkey or lamb and a way to rotate it in your kitchen.

Given that most homes don't have the space for such a device, the next best thing is to buy some pre-cooked shawarma and just heat it up yourself.

Over the last couple of years, a number of Israeli manufacturers have offered frozen shawarma and previously the choice was just turkey.

Now, Yarden offers instant chicken shawarma which is available chilled. Just buy a packet and heat it up in either a microwave or frying pan/wok.

Cooking in a wok tends to work best. Put a small amount of oil, ideally sesame in the wok, wait a minute and then add the shawarma.  Wait about 5 minutes making sure you stir it occasionally so that it gets cooked evenly and you'll end up with some very tasty shawarma.

All you then need to do is put it on a plate and eat it with some salad, hummus and tehina. Or you could just go and put it into a pita.

Coming in at 400 grams, the shawarma packet serves 3 to 4 people and is the next best thing to buying it as a takeaway at your favourite Israeli restaurant.

Yarden Chicken Shawarma is available at many kosher grocery stores priced around 6.50.
