Orienteering
Orienteering

One of the best ways to combine sport and travel is orienteering and Israel offers regular national as well as local events attracting hundreds and sometimes 1000s of participants.

All those who take part in orienteering are given a map of the area and a compass and people have to visit the various points that are listed.

Currently there are over 80 maps for orienteering in Israel and three new maps are produced every year.

Depending on the level of competitiveness, the course can be run, jogged or even walked. Along the way you get to see the area you are competing in as well as get an opportunity to compete with local people.

Most events in Israel cost around $10 to enter.

The Israel Sport Orienteering Association is responsible for organising events and more than 80 take place during the main season with a variety of terrains on offer from sand dunes to forests.  Most events take place on a Friday or Saturday, being the two days that are the State's weekend.
